Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers appreciate the convenience of their key fob's remote that comes with features. They can lock and unlock their car or start the motor and even locate it with an app on their smartphone.
First, place the fob on a clean work surface with the logo facing upwards. Find the button that will release it. Place a coin between the fob cover and the fob, then carefully pull it up.
Locking the Doors
Volvo's remote keyfobs allow you to unlock your car's doors, tailgate and flaps for filling with fuel with the push of a button. They can also turn on the ignition, turn off the alarm, and even operate your sunroof if equipped. With these options you'll never look for your keys or even lock yourself out of your car.
If you're using a brand-new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, then you may be unfamiliar with some of its key fob's hidden features. You can utilize the lock/unlock feature manual if your key fob battery is not working.
To push the manual lock/unlock button hold your key fob with the Volvo logo facing up. Find the black button which is on the outside of the body of the key fob and gently press it to unlock a cover that hides a manual key blade. You will require a flathead screwdriver and a coin to flip this cover counterclockwise, ensuring that the arrow is aligned with "open."
The Engine is Ready to Start
Modern Volvo key fobs offer an ease of use and convenience that is not available with manual keys. A key fob, like any other battery-operated device can lose its charge over time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, it's an indication that it's in need of a new battery.
You can enable this feature with the key fob if your vehicle has a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will be heated or cooled to the same temperature it was set to when it was parked. It can run for up 15 minutes.
Use a fingernail to remove the cover from the back of the key fob. A button should be located beneath the cover on an angle near the edge of the body. Remove it by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will fall open and slide off, revealing the manual key blade inside! If you can't find the button, take a look around the now-uncovered manual key access to find a hidden lever or slot.
Close the Windows
Volvo key fobs have an in-built feature that lets you to instantly open all windows. This is helpful in situations where you need to squeeze into parking spaces that are tight or simply need fresh air while driving.
Press and hold the unlocking button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, if there is one. Then, when you're done with your car you can shut everything by pressing the lock button for four seconds.
You can also use your key fob for activating your car's panic alarm. It will emit a loud noise that will draw attention and discourage thieves. Opening the Tailgate
Volvo's key fob is packed with many useful features. They are ideal when you're swamped with groceries or helping kids pack their sports gear after a session.
For instance, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped), you can open it by using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button and then close it by pressing the same button.
Use the key fob when you are ready to start your vehicle. (Don't be concerned if your battery goes out or if your vehicle doesn't start, because it also has a mechanical key slot). This is one of the many tricks that can be useful for your new Volvo.

The Alarm is turned off
Modern key fobs offer a lot of convenience over a standard mechanical car key. They don't always work perfectly and the batteries may die. If you're in a hurry or don't want to go to a store to have your key fob reprogrammed you can get it to work at home.
Find a clean work surface and lay out your key fob, battery, and any other keys. Find the small black button at the bottom left corner on the key fob. slide it to the right. The cover should fall off and reveal the key blade's mechanical structure underneath.
Press the key fob's unlock button twice quickly, and you should be able open all the doors, as well as the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for two minutes, you are able to close the windows and sunroof in the event that they're equipped. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't then the owner's manual should include a reset option.
